Understanding your hormone levels is an important part of identifying the root causes behind symptoms such as fatigue, mood changes, sleep disturbances, weight fluctuations, and more. At Central Iowa Compounding Pharmacy, we offer multiple testing options to evaluate hormone patterns and develop individualized treatment plans.
Hormone testing is designed to measure bioavailable hormones, the portion that is unbound, active, and able to exert effects in the body. This provides more meaningful information than measuring total hormone levels alone.
Saliva testing is a non-invasive method in which patients collect saliva in plastic tubes, typically at home or work. This simple, stress-free process makes it ideal for evaluating adrenal function, circadian cortisol patterns, and sex hormone levels without needing a clinic visit.
Some hormones and wellness markers are best measured in blood. Dried blood spot testing provides an accurate, convenient alternative to traditional blood draws. With this method, patients place a few drops of blood onto a filter card using a small finger prick.
Once dry, these cards are highly stable for transport and storage and show excellent correlation with standard serum testing. Blood spot testing is used to assess:
Thyroid hormones
Sex hormones
Vitamin D
Cardiometabolic markers
Other lab values that typically require serum
Dried urine testing is another convenient at-home method in which patients saturate a filter card with a urine sample. Once dried, the cards remain highly stable and easy to ship.
Urine testing provides insight not only into hormone levels but also into metabolites, the by-products created as the body processes hormones. This helps evaluate:
Adrenal hormone patterns
Sex hormone metabolism
Detoxification pathways
Nutrient processing
Dried urine is also widely used for testing:
Iodine
Heavy metals (such as arsenic and cadmium)
Neurotransmitters

Hormone patterns
Lifestyle factors

Central Iowa Compounding Pharmacy then works with your provider to prepare customized compounded therapies, when appropriate, based on the results.
